Focus Ring on DA 35 macro makes a clicking noise; manual focus ... this normal?

I know the DA 35 limited is a little noisy when auto focusing, but this noise i will attempt to describe occurs when manually turning the focus ring. I'd like to know if others have experienced this and believe it to be a "defect."

I purchased this lens used from an Amazon dealer (store), that from what i understand, is reputable and often recommended from forum members when buying used equipment. It was graded as being in "like-new -" condition.

This noise, it's just loud (faint) enough to hear it when looking through the viewfinder. Sound is same turning focus ring clock/counter clockwise. It is a precise clicking noise; almost believe it's part of the way it's designed.

The only other lens i can compare it to is the DA 70 limited; smooth, no clicks. But i assume there is a build difference with a Macro lens.

Please advise. I'd hate to return it as i got a good deal for it. I've read nothing but outstanding things about this lens and would like to enjoy it without regret of missing the return deadline if something were to be wrong with it.

Thank in advance for your input.

When I turn the focus ring on mine I can also hear what sounds like little gears turning over. Like a playing card in a bicycle tire spoke, or a little wind up monkey, but very faint.

What's more important is that the action is smooth and it doesn't feel like it's catching anywhere. I believe this to be normal.

Thanks RXrenesis8 for the quick reply and piece of mind. That's exactly what it sounds like; little gears turning over. It's a keeper!
