DA 16-45mm lens hood replacement

Hi !

I'm looking at buying a lens hood replacement for a Pentax 16-45mm . I believe the model number is PH-RBL. However, there is no way I will pay 60 something dollars for it as Pentax's web store is asking.

I also don't mind buying a third party model, giving up a little bit of quality, but I don't want one that screws on the lens, I would really prefer to have one that installed itself like the original.

Anyone have an idea where I could get one ? I tried ebay with no luck!

Thanks!

Karl

Pentax being Pentax and not Canon or Nikon your chances are rather small to find a bayonet style hood.

There are some petal bayonet mounted hoods but until now I haven't seen one that wasn't rediculously short.
Apart from 3-step rubber hoods that are hideous and screw-mount I wouldn't have too much hope.

I'm in the same boat - I lost my 16-50's hood some months ago. The original is either not available or so expensive it's not funny anymore.

I don't think there are many choices here.

I'd get a cheapo "3-stage" rubber hood to use for now while looking for a used copy of the genuine Pentax hood, hopefully at a price that you can live with.

After a year of whining on the forum, a sympathetic member with a broken da16-45 sent me the hood for my da16-45. Keep that WANTED ad fresh and sooner or later it will pop. KEH advertises used ones now and again but they go very fast...I was never able to get one.

Thanks everyone for the comments. It sounds stupid, put I have the opportunity to buy the lens locally for 215$ including a sigma dg filter, but I hesitate because I really like to use hoods. For those of you who uses the 16-45mm, would you say that the hood is very important during outdoor session or the lens handles very well the sunlights and such ?

Buy the lens for $215, and buy a $10 rubber hood and enjoy shooting.

I too got a great deal on my da16-45 from B&H due to the missing hood and just used a couple different cheapies until an original found its way to me. I never felt like shooting was affected but it did bug me at times not having the matching hood. Price I paid to get started with Pentax gear all at one time.

If it really bothers you, life is short. Pay $50 more and find one with the right hood.

I have the rubber hoods on some of my lenses and I like these because you can shape it somewhat to get the best shade spot.

The rubber hood I use on the 16-50 unfortunately vignettes slightly at 16mm.
Else this thing is perfect.
