Sony 58mm tele-converter addon lens (VCL-DH1758) and pentax DSLR?

Hi

I was browsing Sony Catalogue and I came across this tele-conversion lens they sell which fit the Sony DSC-H7/H9 prosumer cameras.

The model is VCL-DH1758. It is a 1.7x teleconverter lens and has a 58mm filter diameter. If it can work on the prosumer, I am guessing it will work with any DSLR.

Anyone has tried this combo? If it works, then I guess we have a cheap teleconverter on our hands!

Opinions please?

Thanks.

If it is a rare mount tele-converter for the Sony DSLR cameras, Sony is now using a Minolta mount, and it will not fit a Pentax.

If it is a front mount tele-converter, see previous thread, "Is this a teleconverter or a tele-photo lens?".

I happen to have the Sony VCL-DH1758 teleconverter. I bought it as an accessory to my Sony H-1 camera. I also have the Pentax Rear Converter-A 2X-S. The H-1 is a digicam, not an SLR, and the Sony teleconverter attaches to the front of the H-1 (obviously) by way of a 58 mm thread.

Just for fun, I attached the Sony converter to some of my pentax lenses (using a step-up ring) sometimes in combination with the Pentax rear converter, sometimes not. I got surporisingly good results with my 50mm A f2 and my 135mm M f3.5. It did not work so well with my Sigma 70-300mm, and did ok with my DA 50-200mm.

I was frankly surprised at the good results. I didn't expect it to work at all. Not a bad way to convert a 50mm lens to 170mm (255mm equivalent) and a 135mm to 459mm (690mm equivalent).

I would NOT waste money on a front-mounted teleconverter with a brand name I've never heard of before, but the Sony teleconverter is, in my opinion, a darn nice piece of glass. I don't know what it costs now, but when I bought it a couple years ago, I paid around $100 US.

YMMV, but it works for me.

I agree with you in that, at least this is of Sony brand and not some brand which I have not heard of (reference make to the other thread I previously started: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/13957-teleconv...hoto-lens.html)

The VCL-DH1758 is approx. 146USD retail price. I am hoping to get it used.

Do you mind to share some photos taken using this sony lens? Thanks.
