Thanks Pentaxor, yes, that's what I meant that 90mm is too close to 77mm compared to 105mm and hence I am considering 105mm unless there are any other reason I should consider otherwise. Price is same for both the lenses. I would have gone with 90mm if I had no 77mm as most forum praised 90mm more compared to 105mm.
Sounds like you've made up your mind Stop worrying about it and buy the sigma, its an amazing lens (as is the tamron which I've shot a lot with on canon EOS mount both digital and film). I preferred the build of the sigma, plus the sigma was quite a lot cheaper (I bought mine NEW for only $380! Nowadays they want $480, a $100 difference.) when I got mine (They tamron was selling for ~$440). My sigma took a hard hit to the ground thanks to POS tripod and got pretty jacked up, but it still works fine and has given me images like:

edit: And as a mid-telephoto it works fantastically as well. Here's two links since i already posted to many images:

both at F/2.8 and way to slow of shutter speeds (1/30 & 1/20)....

One thing to consider

I own the Tamron, and I love it, but the focal length is a bit too close to my DA70, so I have considered switching to the Sigma for some extra reach.

is anyone can tell , what is the difference between tamron and old vivitar ,
they both have 90 mm length but sometimes vivitar comes with half stop higher ( 90mm/2,5)
vivitar also known als lester dine, kiron or panagor, i have one of this, and look for the comparison

Tamron has autofocus. the 2.5/90 Vivitar otherwise known as Tokina 90 is different though from the 2.8/90 Vivitar, not the same lens. although the confusing part is that the Elicar/Panagor/Komine 2.5/90 lens are the same as the 2.8/90 Vivitar. as to why the elicar/Panagor are slightly faster, I have no idea.

btw, Tamron also has a 2.5/90 lens which is known as the BBAR. if you are considering which lens seem to have the best resolution, I would rank them with the ff:

Tokina/Vivitar S1 90/2.5
Tamron 90/2.8
Tamron 90/2.5 BBAR
Lester dine 105
Elicar/Panagor/ Vivitar 90/2.5 and 2.8
