Have Pentax lenses really increased this much in price?

Only if somebody buys it for that much

Actually though I did see the Aspherical Takumar version go over $1100 recently, and it looked like it had element separation. But that's a bit more rare and M42 so you could use it on modern full frame DSLR's.

I can't see the A version being worth anywhere near that, maybe $1k at the most.

yes - they did. Even the old M42 gems went up by at least 30%

Makes the DA 15/4 look like a bargain at $500.

I personally don't consider an auction ask price to be reflective of market value.

we are rapidly reaching the point where pentax has been too successful for its own good. the world supply of lenses you can use is rapidly disappearing.

Note also, since nikon has begun to offer more cameras that will use old MF lenses, the availability of nikon MF lenses has gone down too.
