F vs K 85mm soft

Hi all,

I've read archives about both those lens and searched for pictures in flickr. They seem to produce really interesting images, especially on contrasty scenes. I definitely want to try them out, but I am uncertain regarding following:
- Has anybody tried both K and F/FA version? How are they different in terms of soft effect at f4-f5.6?
- How much did you pay/would pay now for those lens? Ebay has options in $450-650 range, and even $800+ for K version. This seems much higher than lens eventually sold in Marketplace Archives.

Thanks,
Alexander

those 85mm are very expensive ! Very good but expensive. Too expensive as far as i'm concerned ...

If you really want one, you can try the Samyang wich is like a " Pentax A" lense, (quite cheap and good), or some Sigma's.
I get an ooooold USSR Jupited 9 85mm f2 wich is very good but lacks a bit SMC ... but for 70€ (50$) i'm very happy with it !

He's not looking for the well-known FA* 85mm f/1.4 or the A* equivalent. He's looking for reviews of the
- K 85 f/2.2 soft K 85/2.2 Soft
- F/FA 85 f/2.8 soft FA 85/2.8 Soft
Which have a really particular rendering ("soft" effect)

I remember the FA 85 soft being roughly 300 USD on fleabay two years ago, but as all the lens prices have grown exponentially over the last monthes, it wouldn't surprise me to see them at these price today.
The K version has always been more expensive due to the very particular rendering it has.

Now, are these prices justified ? I would say no. I wouldn't put that much in a lens which is not usable everytime I want to shoot a portrait.

Correct. Sorry if I did not express it clear enough.

$300 sounds better.

What particular rendering you are referring to? K version is almost monocle, right? Is it what makes it special? Looking at photos I could not justify what I like better, and unfortunately there are not too many K version examples...

Another consideration, that F version is sharp from f8 and so on, that makes it more versatile, and people also say autofocus works extremely reliable (maybe due extreme softness of out of focus areas).
