Prices DA* Zooms versus Primes

Why do the DA* zooms have a huge discount off MSRP compared to the primes?

For example:

DA* 300mm: $1399.95
DA* 200mm: $1199.95
DA* 50-135mm: $1599.95

Current price at some retailers:
DA* 300mm: $1219-$1399.95
DA* 200mm: $1059.17
DA* 50-135: $959.95

The MSRP for the DA*50-135 is higher than both the 200mm and 300mm, but it usually sells for less than either prime.

I think it mostly has to do with number sold. I don't know how many 16-50s and 50-135s Pentax has sold, but it has to be 4 or 5 times as many as they have sold 200 and 300 primes. The more you sell, in general, the more you can afford to lower your price.

MSRP is a marketing thing.
