F1.4 Lens for Pentax K-x?

I'm a beginning photographer and I'd really like to get a f/1.8 or f/1.4 lens for my Pentax K-x, but all the Pentax lenses (especially the f/1.8) that I've found are incredibly expensive. I was wondering if there are any other brands that have cheaper f/1.8 or f/1.4 lenses that fit the Pentax K-x mount? Maybe with a little DIYing?

Cheers!

How important is auto focus to you? A decent manual focus 50/1.7 should be less than $100. Auto focus adds $200.

Here's a fine example of popping sharp @ f 1.6 - https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/lens-clubs/94597-sigma-lens-club-all-lens...ml#post1442561

I started with the M50 1.7. Great lens on a budget. A bit difficult with the viewfinder on the Kx wideopen, but it will teach you quite a bit.

Nikon's 50/1.8 is $160, but they'll fix that soon w/ a redesigned one for probably $300 (Nikon reveals AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G lens: Digital Photography Review)

Pentax's 50/1.4 (faster) is around $350 new or $260-280 used. Nikon's 50/1.4 is around $330.

So it's pretty comparable unless you're comparing only the $80 Canon nifty fifty 50/1.8 that'll probably redesigned and more expensive once the Nikon one officially comes out

That's not really what he's asking. He's not asking about camera brands, but rather other 50mm lenses he can mount to his Kx.

Also, the Nikon 50mm 1.4D can be found around $250. The new G is going up in price due to shortages. The 50mm 1.8G coming out may have a higher release price, but I suspect it to settle around where the 35mm 1.8G was before the shortages. $199.

My first lens purchase (other than kit 18-55) was a Pentax M 50mm f1.7. For me the speed of the lens and outstanding image quality along with a rock bottom price made me forget all about auto focus. I still use this lens to date when my DA 40mm f2.8 is not fast enough.

there's also the Rokinon/Samyang 85mm f1.4 (no auto focus) for $250-300.

I don't know about K-mount anymore, but in F-mount, the first version can be found for $200 with a little patience. But yes, for a fast telephoto (on crop), that's a fantastic option.

Without a budget, it is diffcult to advise.

At the top of the list (in terms of IQ), there are two MF lenses:
Carl Zeiss 50mm f1.4
voigtlander Nokton 58mm f1.4

Food for thoughts...

Yeah, there's ones with aperture contacts (newer), and ones without. Used, the ones without go around $200. The ebay Samyang/Rokinon/Bower/Opteka/Falcon/Vivitar 85mm 1.4 mostly are the new version, and are all brand new.

My Nokton was a joy to use on my K-7. Amazing lens.
