Pentax 35mm F2.4 AL DA L Lens vs Sigma 28mm f1.8 Aspherical

Want to get myself a fast lens that equivalents to ~50mm on my K100D Super, and was looking at these two.
Would be using for general low light shots, plus portraits most likely.
The Pentax is cheaper, at £120 new, but not as fast. The Sigma is £175 used, but a fair bit faster. Don't think it's the "II" design. Might not have such great bokeh, haven't found enough shots to be sure.

Any thoughts between the two?

DA35/2.4 is just about half the size of the Sigma and has smaller filter thread (if that's important to you). Good compromise might be FA35/2, but it's 2x the price you are looking for: 35mm F2 FA AL by Pentax - Ffordes Photographic
PS: might I ask where can you get DA35/2.4 for £120?

I had one of the pre II 28 1.8 Sigmas for a while. It had decent sharpness but lacked the contrast of a typical pentax lens. The big killer for me was the lens flare, even with the hood in place you had to watch out for flare on a sunny day. I'd go for the DA-35 over the sigma.

Their online reviews are poor & I understand much of the stuff is grey-imported and may not be in stock when they say it is. However, if you can go into the shop & check the stuff out prior to buying, why not? It“s the best price available for the Pentax.

While I wouldn“t get the Sigma 28/1.8, you might consider the Sigma 30/1.4, but it“s three times the price of the Pentax, though much faster & better built. Make sure you get a good copy though.

I love my 35mm f2.4 and would highly recommend it to anyone. I can't speak for the Sigma one way or the other.

I don't have experience with the Pentax 35mm 2.4, but I can put my 2 cents in towards the Sigma 28mm 1.8. I purchased the Sigma last year around Christmas and was blown away by the IQ. However, with and without a UV filter on, I had severe flaring issues. I even returned the first copy to Amazon for a replacement and the second copy constantly was flaring in sunlight and indoors when shot at a slight angle. I loved the focal length so much that I jumped on a Sigma 20-40 2.8 zoom. The throw and feel of the Sigma is phenomenal, but I wouldn't spend over $400 on it. Maybe $200 would be a good deal for one if you can find one used, so it'd be in the same price range of the Pentax 35.

Thanks very much all! Indeed it is Microglobe at that price for the Pentax 35mm. And they should have them in stock since I reserved one over the phone yesterday! Have had problems with waiting for stock there before though.

Sounds like the Pentax is probably right for me if I don't want to spend an extra £150-200
