I bought the 55-300mm lens recently and it jammed up tight after a week - focus jammed and zoom wouldn't zoom back past 70mm.

It has been replaced but I'm curious if any else has had a similar problem - this is the lens with the slip clutch inside that lets you focus it even with the camera set on autofocus. Since the focus mechanism jammed, I assumed that the slip clutch mechanism had failed.

The new one feels rough on the focus ring - is this a common experience?

My 55-300 has had no problem.
Focus ring is quite free, with a normal, mild gritty feeling to its movement.
Zoom has always been smooth.
Hope yours goes the distance for you.

no problem at all (so far). I have the lens for half a year or so.

Thanks for the feedback, especially about the mild gritty feel on the focus - mine is like that and I was worried that it would also jam up like the previous one.
