Finally chose my first two primes for K-7

I have spent tens of hours reading reviews, viewing thousands of photos and talking to people about the choice of my first two primes for my K-7. It has literally kept me awake at night. Yes, I do have a tendency to over-analyse things. But then again, it's not every day you blow $1,500 on a couple of lenses... is it?

First things first... A HUGE thank-you to all of the members of pentax-forum for their input and advice. It's a privilege to have access to such a fabulous community of Pentaxians.

Second ... please, absolutely NO "advice" or attempting to sway me at this point. I don't have the energy to re-enter the analysis and thinking stage again. I am committed to my purchase of these lenses and they are currently sitting in my cart at B&H awaiting the 6pm re-opening of orders.

Third ... please DO congratulate me and bombard me with endless superlatives regarding the quality and wonder of my chosen lenses. Tell me how amazing they are, how much you love yours and how well suited they are to the fabulous K-7 body.

Finally ... if there is anything you would like me to tell you or share with you once the lenses arrive, you need but ask. I will happily take any and all types of shots with both lenses of whatever subject matter I can reasonably get access to – so no pyramids or underwater shots

And with no further ado...

My "normal" prime choice is the SMC Pentax-DA 35mm f/2.8 Macro Limited.

My "tele" prime choice is the SMC Pentax-DA* 200mm F2.8 ED [IF] SDM.

Whoop!!!

Well, congrats then. Definitely not my choices but then that's me. Wish you happiness and lots of great shots ewith your new lenses. If you'll ever think you made mistake by getting those two just let us know. I'm sure there will be few saying I told you so, few giving you new advices and few saying FA ltds are the only way...

Seriously now, congrats and enjoy. Let us know how you are getting on...

Thanks axl. If there is one thing I've learned from all the research thus far, it's that shooting style and the resulting choice of lens is a highly personal thing. I am still developing my own and have a long way to go... hopefully, regardless of where that journey ends, the two lenses I've chosen will prove to be quality choices.

Absolutely. Obviously, I hope that's not where I end up, but regardless, I wouldn't hesitate to share my experience if that turned out to be the case.

Spend a few minutes dialing in the auto focus for each lens, and be sure to check infinity.

For me, the DA 35 ltd macro was sharp out of the box, and razor sharp after dialing in -4 for the lens on the K-5. Your experience may vary - spend the few minutes to tweak it.

Nice lens choice! Post some pix...

Is this a simple process? Something described in the user manual? I've not bought/fitted any other lenses to my K-7 as yet.

Perhaps I'll have a hunt around the forum for some "instructions"

You will love 200mm at 2.8.....I just got there recently with the Sigma 70-200, and should have done it sooner. Love the bokeh, and subject separation.
