My Pentax-A SMC 50mm F2.0 lament?

So I had a Pentax-A SMC 50mm F2.0 with useless film body in my hands yesterday at the thrift store. It was $8. Here's the thing, this thrift store goes 50% off pretty much every other day. So my personal rule is to never buy anything that's not 50% off. I went back today. It was 50% off day. The camera/lens was gone. I'm an idiot. If it was $16 and I got half of for $8, I would have been estatic. Yet, I turned my nose up at it just because it was $8 with no discount.

I also passed up on a Canon with a 35-70mm lens for $12.

Depends on what Canon, I might have passed on that as well, but not the Pentax.

Oh well, that's a pretty cheap lesson learned. It's not like the A 50/2.0 is all that rare or expensive (though $8 would have been a nice deal).

But if it were an A 50/1.2, then I'd give you an earful!

IMHO, go for the 50 1.7. You can get the M version for like, 25 bucks. That lens gives the FA 43 a reasonable run for it's money as long as you are willing to colour correct in PP.

My dream is to find a K or A f1,2 somewhere and snag it.

I missed a K 400-500 reflective, like new, by half an hour recently...

At the $8.00 price tag, I would have jumped at it. There are many people looking for bargins like that as well. The moral of the story, buy it if you gut says to. Otherwise, they disappear fast!!

A Canon EOS. I actually picked up a different one today for $20. It was marked $40 but half off day made it $20. Canon EOS 650, 35-70mm lens, flash, strap, manuals and various blowers/brushes.

Oh, I have a variety of 50mm lenses. I have a few 50mm F1.7s. I even have a F 50mm F1.7 that I got on half off day for $10. It was marked $20.

The big Pentax score I missed by a couple of minutes. It was a Tamron camera bag the size of a suit case. I got there in time to see someone else ask to look at it. I discretly hovered over him while he dug through it. There were about 10 lenses in it with a couple of bodies. I saw a F1.2 and a reflex lens. It was $180 and half off day made it $89. I kept trying the Jedi mind trick hoping he would leave it. He didn't. I go to this thrift store a lot. The lady said "You missed a great deal." after he left.

I did hit the F1.4 honey hole last week. A camera case with two bodies, both with a F1.4 lens and a another spare rattling around on the bottom. $50. Now I think I'm one short on having a different Pentax F1.4 for everyday of the week.

Then why on Earth would you want to waste money on an inferior (and it is inferior) 50/2? Sounds like you did yourself a favour by saving $8!
