my m28/2.8 as well. I thought that I had a bad copy too. But then realized that I just suck at using it. I found it mostly dull and flat but once in a while it'll be ultra sharp and with depth...I think it is one of them "sweet spot" lenses that are casual-use disappointing.

In my case a Beston 28mm/f2.8 is the most unused and probably never will especially having a Vivitar CFWA 28mm/f2.8. With the recent acquisition of a DA 18-250 and a DA 16-45, I’m afraid the 18-55 kit lens will be sitting next to the Beston as well.

That lens was my second most used lens in the film days. It is capable of great results. (That doesn't mean I always nailed it, either)

I recently acquired a Vivitar-Komine CFWA 28/2 that is leaving my 14 other 28's feeling lonely. But somehow I can't quite bear to part with the Tamron BBAR and Vivitar-Kiron 28/2.5's, and the Chinon and Makinon and SMC-M and Sears-Tomioka and Soligor-Tokina 28/2.8's. Breaking up is hard to do.

As for the kit.lens: My original K20D kit was the DA10-17, DA18-250 and FA50/1.4. I bought the DA18-55 (CHEAP!) a bit later. I find it useful mostly as a test-bed for filters, optical adapters, whatever I can hang on a 52mm thread. So it's moved into the special-effects category for me.

Close focus at 22 feet? We need a new term for close focus when the distance in feet is double digits.
I had an 800mm that had a MFD of 33 feet. The distance scale went out to 500 or more feet. That was my least used, followed by the 500 mirror. I have and use an optically-better 150-500 in place of those. The 90 macro probably gets the least use now, just because of its nature.

I hear ya! I had a Vivitar/Komine 28mm/f2.8 WA that I sold to a fellow member. That wasn’t hard to part with because of the CFWA.

The Beston isn’t really bad provided that I stay at f11 and shoot RAW…albeit still no where near the CFWA's league. It's Korean so I'm assuming it's a Samyang which to my understanding is a decent manufacturer. Two things I don’t like about it is the “non-click” aperture setting and the tight enough focusing ring where had it been an M42, I probably would’ve dismount it every time I try to focus…maybe I just have a bad copy?

I usually sell the lenses that don't get used. Right now I'm thinking about selling my Adaptall-2 35-210 and Kiron-made Vivitar 24/2. The former, despite having great build quality and being a pleasure to use, isn't wide enough on APS-C to be a good all-around solution, nor is the close focus (when not in macro mode) of about two meters very helpful. I've decided to continue using my Tamron 18-250 instead. The latter, also well put together and with some very interesting optical qualities, has been replaced by the FA* 24/2, which is a superior lens in most respects. I don't really use my 300/2.8 since getting the 400/4, but I can't bring myself to break up the twins.

Super Tak 50/1.4 and the kit lens.
I have two other K mount fast 50s, and they're easier to use without the adapter. I have a DA16-45 which I prefer over the kit lens.

It's interesting to hear that so many have the 28/2.8 as their least used. I have been bungling about with 35mm film lately, and I love my 28/2.8 on the P3. But I think it's been mounted on my K-r only once.

FWIW, I went through a period where my M28/2.8 was my *most* used lens. That was when it was the widest lens in my prime kit. But now that I have the DA15, I don't tend to "see" 28mm so much any more; I just skip right from 15 to 40. But I still think it's a really nice lens.

As it says in my sig, "Occasional use for special assignments, SMC Pentax-A 24mm F2.8, SMC Pentax Shift 28mm F3.5 and SMC Pentax-A* 300mm F4"

It sure as hell means I still ain't parting with them though.

I have a couple of long lenses that don't get much use. The 500/8 mirror is a lens I bought specificly for getting shots of my daughters crew team when she was in college. I used it quite a bit at a couple of places where the boats were a few hundred yards away at the closest. Since she graduated, it collects dust. Also, I use my 200/4 Tak very little. It's either too short or too long much of the time. Both of these lenses I purchased for less than $50 so I'm not feeling pressured to sell them. The Tak I will certainly keep. It's a sweet lens and sharp at all apertures. The mirror is one I would sell but what's a used Opteka 500/8 worth? It did it's duty for what I needed it to do and didn't cost me much.
