Hard choice for Wide angle to standard zoom lens

Hi,

I did a quick search on old post and I didn't find anything that answered my questions so here it is:

I'm looking to upgrade my wide angle zoom lens and I would like to have more information between 3 lens that I found :

Pentax 16-45mm f/4,0 P-DA ED/AL
Sigma AF 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC Macro
Tamron AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di-II ASL IF

is there any other choises in the same price range?

I know that there is a small price difference between the 3 (Pentax beeing ~380$, Sigma ~450$ and Tamron ~450$).

I'm looking for a lens to use as an every day lens on my K100D. I already have a telephoto lens and a 50mm prime lens and i would like to have something to cover the wide angle range range.

Also if the lens can work on my Pentax Me it's a plus but it's not necessary.

Thanks in advance

Frank

I don't own any of these lenses but the 16-45 and Sigma 17-70 are both on my drool list. If you haven't already looked, you should check out the lens review sections contained in the Databases drop down menu.

From the lens review databases, all three lenses are highly rated and would be a good purchase. All you need to do is pick the zoom range that best fits your needs. It appears than none of the three lenses you have listed have aperture rings. The only way they will work on your Me is wide open.

I have the 16-45mm and it's a very reliable lens. The only thing I'd like is a bit more reach, but right now I can't justify buying the 17-70. The next money I spend will be for a better long-zoom.

The 16-45 isn't a small lens. It seems to shoot best at around f8. There's a bit of barrel distortion at 16mm but that's gone by the 20ish range, I think. When I look at EXIF I find most shots at 21ishmm and 35ish mm and find it good at both.

I'm also interested in comparisons between the 16-45 and 17-70.

thanks atupdate,

I just found the site, I dind't know about the lens database. After a litle bit of reading it seems that they are all good choices...

probably my best option will be to go to a store and get a good feeling of the 3 lens.

All 3 lenses are highly spoken of by their owners. The Sigma has macro/close up capability and a little more reach which might make it more useful as a walkaround, especially if you are a hiker or backpacker. There are hundreds of stunning photos shot with the 16-45 posted throughout the forum. I don't think you could go wrong with any of them.
