Ok - I thought that the K10d would be compatible with all K-mount lenses. I mounted a Vivitar 200mm F3.5 - NON A Lens onto the K10d. The camera just blinked "F--" on the top LCD. I expected that it wouldnt know the F-stop since the lens is not communicating with the camera. However, can the camera meter at all with this type of lens?

I switched to manual focus. I also had SR turned on but the 'shake reduction' was grayed out in the menu. What am I doing wrong here?

i've had numerous copies of this lens. it's quite sharp wide open so you could use it in av at f3.5. i have found the M42 may be a little sharper than the the K mount. all you do to shoot in M mode is set the ap compose and hit the AE-L or green button the get an EV. no problem. the M42 you just set the lens to manual and use AV mode. i have a M42 right now if anyone wants it.

not free.... sorry about the misunderstanding.. i just got it and haven't checked it out yet. i may just keep this one even tho i have the M200/4 which is also a pretty good 200mm and weighs half as much. it's amazing what 1/2 - 1 stop makes..
