I have an FAJ 75-300, which I bought new very cheaply (I think it was about £80). Now, this lens doesn't have a brilliant reputation, and I think this is because it's one of those which suffers badly from QC issues. However, my particular copy is reasonably sharp throughout the zoom range, so I think I've been lucky. Certainly the colours and contrast are very good - much better than any of my vintage lenses (except perhaps for my CZJ 135/3.5).
I think I'd want to find out more about both lenses on offer before purchase - otherwise you just can't tell if you're going to get a good copy or a dud. As I say though, if you do get a decent copy, I think you'll be pleased. Do note that the FAJ is a BIG lens, but quite light (i.e. plasticky).
PS. You may want to look at alternatives such as the DA(L) 50-200 and 55-300, both of which are superior lenses in the longer focal lengths (and the 55-300 in particular seems to be strong at all FLs). HOWEVER, the rule about getting a good copy still applies!
