50mm IQ comparison question

Besides the obvious difference in maximum aperture capabilities, how does IQ of the D FA 50mm 2.8 Macro hold up at distances outside the Macro range compared to the F 50mm 1.7?

I've not owned either lens.

But I've read that the 50 macro is the sharpest lens in the Pentax system.

I realize that sharpness isn't everything, too.

All I have are the A version of both lenses.
1. 1.7@f1.7
2. 1.7@f2.8
3. 1.7@f4.0
4. Macro 2.8@f2.8
5. Macro 2.8@f4.0

All are the same 1:1 crop.

I own an A series 50mm f/1.7 (AFAIK the F version isn't any different optically) the Pentax 50mm f/1.2 wipes the floor with it at every aperture.

All shots were done naked; no hood or filter (I wore clothes since I was on my porch). A tripod was used for frame consistency. Jpegs were made using the Pentax utility software that came with the K-x.
Comparing pics 2 to 4, both @ f2.8, the Macro is sharper. At f4, the Macro again is sharper but the 1.7 is nearer to the sharpness of the Macro.
My 1.7 is a great carry around prime and I generally only use the Macro for macro shots.
I have an A 1.4 and a K 1.2 when I need the light capacity or want really nice bokeh. I do admit that the 1.7 I am using less and less since acquisition of the faster primes but it is so cheap relative to the others, I will keep it; use it with a UV filter and hood when going into rough areas such as dense bush.
