It's a very good lens- see the lens club for deets!

This should probably be moved to the lens forum though.

I love the DA 15. For your trip, though, you might want more flexibility so you *never* miss a shot. If you can handle the bulk, the 12-24 is pretty much equal in the IQ department, and it is *so* much more flexible for landscapes!

Definitely yes, but like ProgMtl stated, if you want more versatiliy, the 12-24mm is a winner.

I would also suggest considering the DA12-24 or the sigma 10-20. I have not used the sigma but people love it. Of the pentax ones basically if space is not an issue the 12-24 will give better versatility and is a cracking lens, I own it and love it, however I have used the DA 15ltd a few times and will be getting that one of these days purely for it's size as I travel for work a lot and space is at a premium. As to your original question, I think all the Pentax limiteds I have bought/tried are worth the money.

No regrets with mine. It's tack sharp and a very compact lens to carry. I only have 3 weeks experience with it but so far the results are fantastic.

It appears the 12-24 is quite a bit more pricey...thanks for the feedback

Yes, but I believe the Sigma is less expensive. If you plan on buying more primes in the wide-angle arena (e.g., 15 + 21), then the primes are more expensive than either zoom.

However, the cheapest high quality solution is to buy the 16-45. That is a really good wide angle lens (not much different from 15mm). Not quite as wide, but on a budget, it's a goodie.

If you are feeling fancy I have nothing bad to say about the 15 other than it isn't a zoom, and sometimes, I wish it was. As far as IQ goes, the 15 beats the 16-45, but not by as much as you would think.

but the DA15 f/4 beats the 16-45mm f/4 in the areas that count especially when you consider CA in the corners.

I am considering the same question (15 vs. 12-24)
what draws me to the 15 ltd is the size, weight, realy low distortion...and you can always make panorama if the lens is not wide enough
the 12-24 has the edge, IMHO, in sharpness wide open and of course, it is a zoom
but...since I own the 35 ltd, I would really like to get the 15 as well
I am building a nature photo kit, which I would like to consist of the 15 ltd, 35 ltd, 100 macro WR and DA*300

I love how it doesnt distort in the corners, well okay, it distorts far less in the corners than other wide angles I have tried. I'm also having fun with it shooting into the sun, great flare resistance!
