It is a very sharp lens. That said, the 105mm focal length will give you about the same field of view as a 150mm on a 1.5 crop Pentax DSLR. This is nice is you want a longer working distance, but irritating if you want to get closer. It is a slow focusing lens too, but most macros are slow focusing anyway. The 70mm macro would be better for portraiture if that's what you want it for. I personally prefer the 50mm macro. All three are very good lenses. I don't have the Pentax equivalents because they weren't available when I was shopping around. I have also heard that the Tamron 90mm Macro is a sharp lens.
