HELP - Pentax FA 100-300 f4.7 Lens not working in Av mode

Hello,

I just got my Pentax FA 100-300mm f4.7 lens from ebay. The aperture is changing when I rotate the aperture ring and when I slide that pin. But when I mount the lens on my k-x, in Av mode the Aperture field is blank and it doesnt change when I rotate the wheel.

The AF works and aperture doesnt change when I set the parameter use aperture ring to true.

When I set the use aperture ring to false both the AF and the aperture values doesnt change.

Is the lens faulty? Am I missing some settings on my camera? Please have a look at the pics below of the aperture.

Make sure the aperture ring is in the 'A' position. You can't actually use the aperture ring on DSLRs- you have to use the e-dial.

(If you absolutely want to use the aperture ring, go into your menu, set the 'allow aperture ring other than A' custom function, and then meter as if the lens were a manual lens: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-lens-articles/110657-how-use-meter...k-x-k-7-a.html)

Did you set the aperture ring to the 'A' position? You may have to push a button on the aperture ring to move it to the 'A' position.

Hey gp1806, you saved my day. Thank you very much. I had set it to A position and now it is working in Av mode. The widest aperture is 4.7 but the camera shows 4.5. Is it normal with this lens?

Is this the light platinum metallic lens (f4.7-5.8)? If yes, this is a great lens.

Yes. After reading very good reviews and excellent photos, I bought it over ebay, paid a little bit more but I feel its worth it. Looking forward for great experience with it.

Indeed. IMHO it is by far the best deal in its range. Looks funny on a black camera; AF sounds loud; feels cheap and plastic; but it is surprisingly rugged, and it really delivers!

Yes, thats exactly whats my experience is. There was a small dust spec in the front element but the pictures came out very well. Below are some of the shots I took in San Diego zoo last weekend.
