Can someone please help identity this lens for me?! really stuck i've been lookng everywhere

It's not a Pentax lens. Looks like some sort of wide-angle F2.8 M42 lens.

Yeah i thought it wouldn't be Pentax, Pentax Lenses have the aperture numbers the other way around.

It has the look of a Soligor but without seeing thw front face, I can't tell.

considering the size of the mount, maybe it is something like a C mount or other video mount.

Maybe, but I've only ever seen such deep caps on old Russian glass, Zenits and the like.

I have several deep M42 caps like that shown. Of the M39 lenses I own or have seen, none have a M/A switch, and their screw-on caps are thin. This lens has a JIIA sticker on the right side. It looks to me like a Japanese-made M42. It could almost be (but isn't) my Sigma-X 24/2.8. More likely it's a 35 or 50. More pictures would be really really helpful.

Why not. The SMC had rubber focusing collars with a chrome ring, but the DOF scale is not right

No...
The aperture rings run in opposite directions.
And the front doesn't bulge out.
