got the K55 today and guess what?

My Super Tak is a lot sharper than the K. The only advantage of K for now is creamier bokeh.

A little disappointed with the K... let me change that. I mean very disappointed....
Could it be possible that it's your copy of the K? My K 55/1.8 is pretty sharp.. but of course I don't have a Super Tak to compare it to.

I agree on the ST 55 1.8 - it is a beautiful lens. Of all my manual lenses it is by far the best.
But - offtopic - I also like my really old Helios-44 with M39-thread. It's bokeh and it's dreaminess is unbeatable.

I see many helios 44 on ebay but they say they are m42. Is this the same one? They are really affordable.. like $20-30.

UPDATE: Ok, I see the M39 lens. http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-HELIOS-44-F2-58mm-Lens-Zenit-Zorki-M39-/27073674...item3f092ad862

Kheldour, what is the best m39 to m42 adapter I can get for the Helios 44 m39? Or is there a m39 to K mount adapter? I already have the Asahi Pentax M42 to K Mount adapter.

I'm not Kheldour. I hope you won't hold that against me.

M39-M42 adapters are thin rings, threaded M39 on the inside and M42 on the outside. I once bought ten for US$12, shipped from Ukraine. They were pretty cruddy, but workable. Those from China might cost US$3 or so apiece (or US$2 each in quantity) and are of better quality.

The only M39-PK adapters I've seen have wide thick flanges, and won't allow a lens to focus to infinity. They are fine for lenses to be used for closeups or to mount on a PK bellows or macro tube, but not for general photography. Much better to get a couple cheap M39-M42 rings.

All these adapters are easily found on eBay. Avoid the Ukrainians; go Chinese.

You may ask: RioRico, why do you have dozens of M39-M42 adapter rings? Why do you have ten M39-PK adapters? Because 1) I have a number of M39 camera and enlarger lenses (39mm is a common enlarger standard); and 2) the M39-M42's can be used to adapt Exakta-mount lenses to Pentax, non-destructively; and 3) the M39-PK's can be used for other lens adaptations. Once one starts chopping lenses, these are great.

Thanks a bunch. I'll order the Chinese made m39-to-m42 rings. Of course however the m39 helios 44 is only available on Ebay via Ukranian/Russian sellers and I'll have to get it from them
