Do they shoot in the rain because they have weather sealing? Or is there something special about shooting conditions during rain? Or is it because it rains more than it's clear where they live?

My own perception is that things look miserable when it rains.

I was hoping that would change my perception, however I realise that its a mindset acquired by living in climes where its generally sunny, and while I do appreciate your kind posts, I also realise that I'm going to have difficulty changing my mindset.

Seems like those links don't work now but yes, some Trent Parke is a good example of bad weather photography.

What is the point of trying to change someone's view on art?

Why shoot in the rain? Why shoot macro? Why shoot wildlife? Why shoot?

(selar, if you really aren't convinced by those two links that there may be a value in shooting in the rain, I don't know what else can be said)

Indeed. That was the first question that came to mind and was answered before taking a shot in the days of film. Nowadays we shoot, because we like mashing a button, it costs nothing to mash that button, and it gives instant gratification, so we keep mashing it.

So your basic grievance is that you can't keep mashing that button when it's raining?
How about shooting indoors?

I'm wondering if your concept of rain is different than some others’. I wouldn't go out shooting in a torrential downpour, but we often get a light drizzle that can last all day, or on and off for several days. It's not terribly uncomfortable outside, and there are some nice photo opportunities. Not to mention all the snowfall we get during the long winter. Snow will wet your gear just as well as rain.

I would like them as well, As an example it's been raining here for the last 7 days. PITA, i will shoot with my old MF primes attached and if it's torrential haul out the plastic bag despite the wr of the k7
sometimes i have no choice either. NXNE is coming up and i have a media pass. more than once over the years i've been shooting events at this outdoors in the rain
Also Colours can be really nice in the rain/overcast not everything looks miserable even if the weather is

other night in the rain

Wider than 55 WR lens? Streeter's paradise!
Living in London I don't get many torrential downpours but rain is very frequent occurrance. I've learned to love DA*55 for all it's aspects although I think in certain things 50/1.2 is better. Anyway, after trying about 30 odd lenses over last 4 years (including, FA&DA ltds, original Ks etc), I have to say that the best metch for 50ish Fl for streets is 24. So at the moment I'm using FA*24. If they'd make it DA*24/2 I'd be over the moon! If they'd make DA*28/2 I'd most probably grab it too, and one lens I would be interested too would be DA*26/2. This would mimic 40/2.8 on FF and since Pentax officials said they'd be doing quirky focal lenghts, this would make a lot of sense for them. And besides, it would sit exactly half way between DA21 and FA31!

As for those who don't see the merit of shooting in the rain or other adverse conditions(dust, snow etc), why bother to explain them...let them live in the dark, believing the best pictures are taken at mid day with sun at your back

When I want flowers to look wet I just get the garden hose out and give them a spray
