DA 70mm f2.4

Just got this lens together with a K5 ( day 1 today)

Can anyone with this lens confirrm that the barrel knocks on the body of the lens on gently shaking the camera with the lens mounted?

Thanks

There can be a litle play between the focus barrel and the lens body, this is a matter of tolerances in the design. My DA 70 acts the same way

IF the focus ring has wobble, then you have a bad problem.

Are you sure it's the lens you're hearing?

Because the sensor will "clunk" if you move the camera around when it's off. This is because the sensor floats for the shake reduction. My DA70 is solid.

Just out of curiosity, why are you shaking your camera? Seems pointless.

Well, not really shaking it. But every action, eg putting the camera down, i can hear the knocks

The lens barrel of my 70 has a slight wobble as well but I have never heard it knock. Suggest you take it off the camera and see if it still knocks

BTW, the only lens that made noises for me was a Tamron 90 f/2.8...and the noise was supposedly normal.

Unfortunately, I find the DA limiteds less than well-built when I moved on to better lenses.

I think the others are right who suggest that you are actually hearing the sensor bumping around when you shake the camera. Take the lens off and shake the camera again and see if you still here it.

I haven't found that to be the case at all. My DA limiteds are beautifully constructed works of art.

It does seem most likely to be movement of the sensor.

Mount the lens on the body, lay the camera down on it's back and grip with two fingers the front of the lens barrel, then pull up the whole set carefully whit-out lifting it and try to move it sidewards (not turning!). If the lens barrel has a very little play then it is normal. But when you feel/hear it knock against the helicoidal, then there is to much play and send it back for a check up.:ugh:
I had the same play on a DA 21mm and this is what the Pentax Europe Service centre in Germany told me to do before sending it back, I had to send it back...
There must be some play in the lens system, because the AF need to be able to turn with the least of friction possible. Sometimes you can feel that the lens has less play when the AF screw is under 'tension' while focusing.
I hope you understood what I was trying to say...

Strangely I did exactly that but with the lens off the camera and the play was very obvious.
The knocking sound was definitely from the lens when mounted as it disappeared after mouning the kit lens. I have retuned it
