I've got a good 50-200 which I am happy with ( in contrast to the kit 18-55 lens I got) but recently I bought a Tamron 70-300 Di LD for the extra reach. I am quite taken though with the extra detail and nice optical peformance up to 200mm, it really beats the 50-200 in the 70-200 range and is a bit brighter as well. Neither lens has any PF at these FLs. It's also sharp at 300mm but has the dreaded PF by then but it's quite easy to PP out in Paint Shop Pro 9. The low cost means it's a definite winner and a little PP for high contrast 300mm shots is a small price to pay.

I have both these lenses. Actually,I did what your suggesting. I sold my 50-200 and bought the Tamron 70-300. However, I relented and purchased another 50-200.
I find I have use for both and am much happier in choice owning both.
Have seen many questionable reports about the Tamron, build, PF, softness etc.
I dont agree with the questioning of the build. I feel it is quite a well built lens.
The macro I find good. Purple Fringing, yes, in bright contrasty light, but closing down(F8 and smaller) tends to overcome this. Softness at longer end? Hasnt caused me a great deal of concern up to date.
Then again, maybe I am a bit easier pleased than some, maybe I havent raised my standard bar high enough!
I canr ecommend this lens, considering its price I feel its a worthwhile purchase.

LOL. I do have a tripod

Oh...I just bought the AF360FGZ flash today. The battery door is flimsy (as expected). Nothing much I can do about it except to give it its needed loving tender care while I am using it.
