Just speculating here now but a little over 100usd in normal (read good) condition. I'm sure it can go for more as well as less than that. These A 1.4 seem to pop up for sale quite often, why not let a couple of auctions go by and watch the winning bids to get a picture of an appropriate price?

In my opinion one cannot pay too much for a 50mm 1.4... they are priceless...

Auctions that have ended over the last couple of weeks have ranged from about $125 to $150 US. Ebay can be a strange place though. At the beginning of October I snagged a SMC-A 50mm 1.7 for a little over $60, and over the next week I saw a few more go for closer to $90. My advice would be to figure out what the lens is worth to you, enter that as your maximum bid, and see how it shakes out. If you end up bidding against 1 (or worse, 2 or more) people that MUST HAVE LENS, that's when auctions get on the train to Crazytown. Just remember 2 things.

1) A used anything is worth exactly what somebody (not necessarily you) is willing to pay for it.

2) There are a lot of A series 50mm lenses out there, both 1.4's and 1.7's. If you don't get this one, another will be along shortly.

Good luck.

There is a good database of used manual focus lens prices here:

I would check KEH as well. You can often find better deals there among the cooler heads outside the insane bidding wars of ebay. They also use a much more conservative (read: honest) condition rating system. A "bargain" item on KEH is usually better than a "mint***!!!@@@" or some such nonsense on ebay.

True Groundloop, I snagged a 'buy now' Pentax Manual 50mm 1.7 for $20 +$5 shipping off Ebay, they have gone as high as $89 and the lens was cleaner than my Pentax 50mm 2.0 manual lens...I do like the 50mm lenses on these cameras for portrait work.

Glad I snagged my SMC-A f/1.7 last winter (2006) for $35! They are nice lenses. Enjoy!
