Which 28/2.8? There were quite a few. I rather like the version 1 of the "M", although it's often considered quite mediocre.

I actually think this about the 50 1.7. The 43 has better bokeh and colour, but they tend to render very similarly. The 50 1.4, on the other hand, is less about brutal sharpness and more about a soft, dreamy rendering, which reminds me of the 77 more than the 43 .

If you can't swing the 43, you can get respectably close with the 50 1.7, some practice (and a hood). Unfortunately, the FL is noticeably tighter.
I mentioned this in another thread but I agree the 50mm 1.7 and 43mm are very similar. Very similar.

I had an A 28mm f2.8, so that would have been version 2. I took a lot of my favourite shots with that lens (great focal length), and after I learned to never use it without a hood, it was reasonably sharp wide open and could cut like a knife at f4.

My biggest gripe with the lens was actually due to my ineptitude, I found it difficult to focus with (it was mostly the focal length, I find it easier to manually focus the longer lengths without a split prism). I was offered the right price for it and sold it along with a A 50 1.7 to fund my 50 1.4, which I do not regret at all (I just love the focal length).

I'm strongly considering buying a F 28mm f2.8... I hear that it' even better than the version II... or perhaps tracking down a 28mm f2 if it can be found at the right price. I also hear that the Vivitar 28mm f2.8 is a really good lens.

One thing is for sure, on ASPC, I love 28mm.

Yeah the 50 1.7 is very sharp when stopped down but the 43 is in a league of its own. I dont find any similarities shared between them in image rendition.

As for the 28 f/2.8, I got rid of that lens quick smart.
have to agree. they really are different.
