You have FA28 and F28/2.8
And then there are Sigma lenses
28/1.8 AF and 28/1.8 EX DG AF.
The second is a brick but the first is not much bigger than 31ltd, but it's very hard to find

nonsense - there's one (a 28mm f1.8 sigma) in the For Sale thread right now...

I think there are many options. To my idea the Ltd series off pancakes could still use an extra lens, since it is offering 15mm, 21mm, 40mm and 70mm (the 35mm macro left aside).

The new cheap serie could also use some new baby's since I have the idea that a lot of users witk K-r/K-x are buying this lens. Also K-5/K-7 users enjoy it.

Well if you want normal eyeview like FA 43mm offers, wich is the diagonal of the sensor (in film it is 43,27mm) then you get 28,37mm lens. So a 28mm lens would be nice new lens and it should be one off the Ltd series I think.

For the cheap series maybe 24mm and 60mm would be a nice add.

Or if you want to go Pentax-way, just pick a number in this series:
priemgetallen

Can this be true: 2837 and 4327 are primenumbers!

Actually, not nonsense.

Axl said "the second one (the 28/1.8 EX) is a brick and the first one (the older 28/1.8) is not much bigger than the 31 but is very hard to find". It's the older version that's harder to find, not the newer and larger 28/1.8 EX. The one selling here is the newer version, the one that sold here is the older one Axl said is harder to find (which it typically is).

If you post in the wanted section on this site and are willing to pay market value, it shouldn't take long to get one. That's how I got my F28, and I love love love it.

the 28mm is nothing really special to be honest. but if you really insist on an autofocus 28, you might as well consider the Sigma 28/1.8. there is no point in looking for a lens that is hard to find. btw, it's not because that such lens is hard to find, makes it automatically great.

That's your opinion! This is the first time in 48 years Pentax hasn't had a 28mm in their lineup. Its kind of ironic given the aps-c sensors they have used have about a 28.3mm diagonal.

I would like a 35 f1.4 though, after seeing nikon and canon one:

We only have Sigma 30 offering?

There's the new Samyang 35/1.4 manual focus. A new Pentax 35/1.4 would be like a US military intervention in Syria: expensive, and do we really need another one?

sorry, you might had misunderstood me with that statement. what I meant by that are the old existing Pentax AF 28mm lens are underwhelming performance-wise. I didn't mean the 28mm as a focal length.

I wish Pentax would make a 28.

28mm is actually the true normal FL for 1.5x crop sensors (meaning focal length = sensor diagonal). With digital cropping a little is trivial, while uncropping is a lot harder, so there's something to be said for 28mm rather than 35mm (which is even longer than 50mm on film).

My understanding (which admittedly is often faulty) is that the reason 50mm became the nominal normal lens for 35mm film was that in the early days it was a lot harder/more expensive to make fast lenses shorter than 50mm. The diagonal size of a 35mm film frame is actually about 43mm. Hence the FA 43mm ltd.

Given the advantage of in-body stabilization and the Pentax tradition of good primes, I don't quite understand why they do what they do. The FA 35 was well-loved, but then discontinued and development resources devoted to the DA 35, which is slower and not as well-made and costs not that much less than the FA 35 did before prices went crazy. And then of course there's the lovely DA 35mm ltd. But despite all this thrashing about in the 35mm lens waters, nothing at 28mm. I think it would have made much more sense to keep the FA 35 in production and have a 28mm in the line (FA 28 or use the development money for a new DA 28). Don't get me wrong -- I'm thrilled that at least Pentax offers their entry-level camera in a kit with a prime lens, I don't think anybody else does that. But I'm just not sure that the DA 35 is the best that they could have done.

I guess I'll just keep coveting the 31 ltd (but probably never buy one).

I'd get the K28/2 instead for the price the Samyang is going. although a Pentax 35/1.4 isn't a bad idea as long as it's AF and costs around $600.

Not only a good lens, but also a great photographer. Do think you could make something like this with FA 31mm?

the FA31 is equally as capable, if not better. not to mention that those shots might had been used on a FF dlsr which Pentax doesn't have.

my vote goes with the 24 2.0 , rework the old FA24 add new coating at the rear, and release as a DFA24 2.0, a little larger than I'd like ideally but still no heavier than the Sigma 24 1.8 and a fair bit smaller than the sigma which is a bit of a monster
WR would be really nice (and pretty much glue this lens to my k7 for 90% of the time, i'd probably get rid of a big chunk of my lenses to own it
SDM would be nice too, but not necessary for my purposes
