Thanks a lot for the photos guys!
These are what I mean when I say that I can barely see these mounts seen from this side!
..and Cannikin, what extra pin on the outer ring are you talking about?
I see 2 contacts for the power zoom/sdm/hsm contacts.
Are you talking about the spherical like contacts on the mounts?
I actually noticed that too that there is an extra one. Is that needed for the SDM/HSM motor?

Yeah, that's the one I'm talking about. It's on all my in-lens motor lenses, but on none of my screw-drive lenses. Since the two inner contacts pretty clearly provide electrical power to the motor, I'm guessing it transmits focusing information/commands between the lens and camera.

I guess people can now see my interest from seeing this side of the mount since there are things here that we take for granted but when we look closer are actually different.
I'm sure this also provided much information to others who are interested on this like me.
Before there were a lot getting confused by all the different kinds of mounts due to the different electrical contacts like the KA, KAF (1,2,3), F, FA..etc and now that these other new ones had come along, it is actually better that we get to know it also since not a lot of us here in the forums can afford to have these (SDM/HSM) lenses..well, maybe we can afford it but would rather opt at buying 3 regular lenses for the price just one SDM/HSM..not unless of course you use photography as a living or for business.
Thanks a lot guys! This is an invaluable help too at not just recognizing but at identifying lenses/mounts.

Thanks for all the info here.
I got me a Sigma 17-70 OS HSM because of this. HEAVY lens!
Seller didn't know the mount so I had to make sure.
Thanks again!
