SMC A 50mm 1.7 Lens hood similar to 43mm LTD

I recently acquired a 43mm ltd and it is a little gem. But it also made me realize that the lens it was supposed to replace (SMC a 50mm 1.7) is also a real gem. There is a difference between these two lenses but it is marginal. I can confidently say that the 50mm 1.7 is the poor mans 43mm ltd.

That being said I am keeping the 50mm for a few specific instances and for when I get another body. I would like to find a lens hood for it similar to the 43mm. The lens hood must be tiny and metal and look good. I would just get a 43mm hood for it but the hood itself would be more than I paid for the 50mm. Ideally I am looking for a hood under $20 bucks (which is about what I paid for the 50mm on a local classified as part of a package)

If you have seen what I am looking for please let me know!

This is my best option thus far.

As an interim, or ultimate, (depends on how you see it!) solution remove the glass from cheap 49mm filters and stack 'em until you begin to see vignetting -- then remove one. A little flat or semi-gloss black, spray lacquer makes 'em look nicer.

Filter rings generally absorb a lot more abuse than thin aluminum hoods and if the rim gets dinged, just replace the outer ring. Add or remove rings to suit various focal lengths for true versatility. Use a stepping ring and larger filters to build a conical hood.

You could wrap a cylinder of paper around the lens or just stack filters to determine the final length in advance if you have to find some filters.

I must admit I like the vented hoods normally used on RF's such as this:

Lens Hood 49mm Tilted Vented for Leica M Summicron | eBay

If you want a more normal shaped one, try one of the older Pentax metal hoods from the Taks.

You can use a 49-28mm step down adapter ring as a hood for your 50mm lens.

Read this thread.

The lens in this photo is an FA 50mm F/1.7:

Some good suggestions that I never thought of. I might try and make a hood out of some step down rings or modified filters.

I noticed in a couple of threads someone mentioned buying spare 70mm ltd hoods. I have looked online with no luck. Any ideas? I know this sounds vain but I actually really like the look of my 50mm lens and want a hood that keeps my camera looking good as well as functioning well

BTW thats a nice looking rig soldbear.

This is probably a better source for the vented hood, it's slightly cheaper and ships from NY rather than China

You should check out ebay

Type in "49mm tele metal lens hood"

It is sold by heavystar and works great on my SMC tak 50/1.4, Fa43, and Jupiter-9 without in vignetting. + it is shipped from Northern Cali so you won't have to wait long to receive it.

I can post a pic of the hood mounted on the Fa43 and Tak 50 if you like.
