I'm seriously considering buying a DA* 50-135. I am working toward a contract where a lens with weather-proofing is going to be needed.

Now, this lens is going for about $1520 AUD. I can get it for about $1400 AUD. However, with the Austalian Dollar so strong buying out of the US is a definate option for me now.

A quick look on Amazon.com showed this lens for $829.99 USD. This is under $900 AUD. It isn't going to cost me $500 for postage and insurance so I'm a LOT better off.

So, my question is, can I ask for suggestions of stores in the US that have access to the DA*s and are willing to ship internationally.

I don't think Amazon ship camera lenses outside USA. I bought one lens two weeks ago and had to send my friend's place first.

B&H has DA* lenses and their postage is about 50USD to Australia. Pentax | SMCP-DA* 50-135mm f/2.8 ED (IF) SDM Autofocus | 21660
Since the price is more than 1,000 AUD, you may have to GST. The total will be close to 1,300 AUD. IMO it is not worth it if you don't get international warranty.

Is B&H really asking $999.95? They are usually pretty competitive. I got my copy at a local non-chain store for $799+tax.

Go to a Japanese electronics broker. One example is pricejapan.com. I've used them to send stuff to Canada and it was FAST. Just follow the instructions. Their commission is 5% added onto the best Japanese retail price they can find.

They are owned by Singapore Post. Basically they give you an address in the US to have your gear shipped to, then forward it onto you for a fee. This way you can buy from any US shop. Their rates are pretty reasonable, especially with the current 20% paypal discount.
I've used them on amazon. Worked out fine, and shipping was only US$30 for a couple of ipods.

If your going to buy through a US dealer you might want to ask for them to take a few sample shots and e-mail them to you from the very lens you plan on buying.

It only takes them a moment, and if there's a problem with it it'll hopefully show up for them

I wouldn't have made this suggestion if Pentax had a perfect track record with their new lenses.

I order all my gear from adorama.com great service and fast shipping, what else could you want. 50-135 not in stock at the moment though
