Here is what I think I know:
Quantaray was/is a house brand and the name would be prominently displayed. From the serial number and other inscriptions, I think it may be hard to track down -- one of the gurus over at
Manual Focus Lenses forum might be able to help.
Optical quality? Probably not top-notch, but these early zooms may possess interesting 'character' (ie aberrations).
Value? I got an A-type Promaster (Tamron) 60-300 push-pull, maybe a decade or so newer than this, for US$13. And I've kept it because 1) I haven't many A-type lenses, and 2) it doesn't suck too bad. My rule for used lenses:
If it costs less than a sandwich or hamburger, buy it.
If it costs more than an extra-large pizza, think hard about it.
If it costs more than a fancy dinner out with your partner, ask questions here!
I'll guess that the current eBay price for something like that is maybe US$20, likely less. If throwing away US$15 won't hurt you too much, go for it. If it's more than US$20, look for something else.
