My bet is that if there was little to choose between the two, then most of us would buy Pentax. Of course, economies of scale come into it, but I guess this might be addressed by Pentax designing connection fittings for all the brands that Sigma currently produce for. If I had a Caniky I wouldn't be any more bashful about sporting a Pentax lens rather than a Sigma.

I think a DA 135-400mm/f4-5.6 DC WR would be a great addition to the Pentax lens lineup. It would give Pentax a lens to compete against the Canon 100-400mm, Nikon 80-400mm, and Sony 70-400mm lenses. My friend left Pentax because he couldn't buy a Pentax lens like this (he didn't like the Sigma's). He now owns a Canon 7D and the 100-400mm.

I'd also like to see them update the DA 55-300mm with a DC WR version. Actually, I'd like to see the DC autofocus in most of the DA and D FA line (not a big fan of screw drive autofocus noises), and of course an updated SDM-II.

I know, you and a handfull off others would buy this lens. Well not to worry, since the span I try to take in time is only to PhotoKina 2014 and at the time the userbase for Pentax is to small to make it possible to take such a lens in production. (why do you think Pentax only costs 124 million $) But in time when marketshare will grow there are possabillity's to ad such lenses to the program. I think there are some steps to take to go back on that path (camerawise technics and lensline).

Have you noticed that when you had choosen DA*135-270mm/f2.8 and DA*2.0xTC that you would have that lens! That lens was ment to work on filmcamera's, so on our APS-C that would mean DA*164-393mm/f5.6 or have times been changing things in wildlifephotography?

If you would stack that DA*135-270mm/f2.8 with the combo DA*1.4xTC and DA* 2.0xTC you would get 378-756mm/f7.9 that should still work with lightmetering. Combining that with crop of APS-C gives you a 577-1155mm/f7.9 that is the same as a scopingdevice. Who would ever want such a thing?



By the way, going to 500 poll entry's would be a good thing to give a message to Ricoh!

Maybe, but without something at 600mm, I believe it will be hard to lure serious nature photogs to the brand. They have access to this focal length both for apsc and ff elsewhere. The thing about the 250-600 is that it's ability to act as a bag of primes, it's minimum focus distance, and zoom ability in this range is something that no other brand has, and that might provide additional lure. I think the closest you can come is the Sigma 300-800, and it's not available to us.

I'll say what I've said before though. There probably aren't enough people whom would order this lens regularly to have it come off an assembly line. Make it a special / made to order lens. Give us a way to easily order it and have it show up on our doorstep a month or two later.

I'm still skeptical that this is the actual number. AFAIK, this number hasn't been disclosed by the companies in the transaction, it was just reported by one news agency and then parroted all over. Even at a 3 times revenue transaction this number seems really small.

Some of the lenses suggested make sense, some are completely out of proportion...why not a 4/400 mm or a 2/21 mm SDM/WR. What is the use of a 1/50 or a 2.8/80-200 or a 1.4/85 mm. You are mixing wet dreams with lenses for 35 mm camera systems (which does not exist) with lenses that would make sense for the current APS-C based system.

Well there is no harm in dreaming. I have FA*85mm/f1.4 and that is a wonderfull lens

So I coult think of other people to want such a lens. I know that for portrait the talk is to use 85mm on FF and for our APS-C there is the 55mm as the right choice. Well there are more options in life and you can use these lenses for various functions. So for me 85mm/f1.4 and 135mm/f2.0 are not wet dreams, but lenses that I would want to use on my APS-C camera.

That 80-200/f2.8 (wich is a FF design) isn't more popular surprises me, since the old design is a wonderful lens. Even the cheaper alternative 70-200/f4 (wich would be an APS-C design) isn't very popular, so there isn't enough demand for at the time. That is the bright sight of this survey. Getting behind the do's and don't where Pentax users would want to spend their money on in future.

On some off the choices there are some shortcomings in the poll. A 400/f4 should have been included even when demand is low. On the wideangle side and long portrait side there are several options in the divers lenslines, so there is enough to choose from.

Pentax has some great primes already. Some more cheap ones with be nice but I feel they need to focus on their zoom lens lineup, especially since current SDM lenses do no inspire confidence in the reliability department. My votes for a realistic lens?

I will make an update soon, but not mutch has changed. I will make an apointment with Ricoh's Dutch headquarters by the end of the summer after schoolholiday's and present them this survey. I hoop the number off voter's will keep growing.

Well this what we see as normal today for travelzoomcamera's in the P&S airea and maybe even Q will get this. There was the Tamron/Pentax 18-250mm f3.5-6.3 in the past. Maybe with some modification this can come back in production, but my guess is that low sales killed it.

You first would maybe be the follower for 17-70 or just making the 17-70 a WR version wich more people would like. The second is also territory of the DA*16-50, but a bit longer reach would be nice. A new version for the 16-50 would be great and I second the wish for CA since the DA*16-50 has a bad reputation there. I considder this part off the updating of current SDM lenses.

I can't change the poll, but I do add new items to the first entry and the survey outcomes, for wich an update is coming after reaching 400+. To ad something new from my own thinking:
Making a good portraitzoom would be great. I got the idea when thinking about a fixed lens camera with APS-C sensor. It is the little sibling for the 645 FA 80-160mm/f4.5 lens wich would turn into a DA*40-80mm/f2.0 or when a full frame camera is to hold in account then a bit longer DFA*50-100mm/f2.0

I wish they'd just put the aperture ring back on the D FA 100mm macro WR lens so I could use it on my ME Super. I've been looking for a NIB non-WR version but can't find one.
