Ron, I really loved this thread, but I wish you had started it with a DFA* 250-600mm as an optional vote.

How about a 200-500 5.6 to go with the DA* 60-250
I am curious about what Ricoh wants to do with wildlife photography. I think the answer to that question wil be descisive to what long reach lenses wil be available in future.

I wish they'd just put the aperture ring back on the D FA 100mm macro WR lens so I could use it on my ME Super. I've been looking for a NIB non-WR version but can't find one.
Well I think more people would want that especialy for macrolenses, but I don't think it wil ever come back. It is all about electronics now.

I added to the wishlist:
Updated DA 50mm/f1.4 (WR or non-WR, coult also be f1.7 or f2.0) to replace FA-version.
i want that one! with quick-shift and ltd-size and possibly ltd-styling (and retractable lens hood?) so it doesn't look weird next to my other lenses
(...and 49mm filter thread of course)

i've owned a FA 50/1.4 for a year and the only thing that really kept bugging me was the lack of quick-shift. :-/

Well your number two will be on it's way alongside a Full Frame camera, but don't expact in a day sooner. I see the functionality of your wide to normal 14-28mm lens, but tendency is toward either wide-angle or longer lenses with more zoomratio dan a 2x zoom in this range.

My thinking is based on my usage of the 12-24mm, in which the majority of time, I use between 14-24mm, however, it would be nice to extend to 28mm to make a 2x zoom which hopefully would be achievable without a major overhaul of the design.

Also, on the 24-70 f2.8, it is a 'me-too' lens compare to other brands, but I would like to see more creative design to include WR and shed the 'huge' weight as in the other brands.

I actually want a DA-Limited or FA-Limted 21-24mm F1.8. So I get around 35mm in with APS-C sensor.

Update on july 31th

I updated both pdf's based on the results of the poll entry's on july 31th at the time that 392 voters where in the poll.

The next update will be just before I will hand over this survey to Ricoh. I will make an appointment with the Dutch Headquarters by the end of our summer holidays.

So please keep voting, since the bigger the pool off voters is the more important the results are.

Thanks for your attention.

I'd like them to develop some wide rectalinear primes. 15mm is nice, but what about something similarly small at 12mm and 10mm?

Now that you have the 400 votes (surprised it took this long) you should delete all of the selections that received less than 15% and introduce a new poll. Only 11 options received 15% or more of the votes. If Pentax were to release 5 new lenses over the next 3 years what would people want to see. I think the current list has too many options and that is diluting the quality of the poll.

Well this is not needed for the outcomes on this poll. Since it is very hard to get 400 poll entry's (some 13-15 % of active members to visit just this thread over two months) on a not so simple question (it is not a yes/no poll) and having less then 200 poll entry's on a new one isn't good enough to draw conclusions I say that this is good enough. Going along with the line of votes in different groups Ricoh can get some good guidance out of it.

The options should be more generic. Otherwise many of them have too much details that require additional note from voter.

(E.g. 70-200 is almost the same as 60-250). So if i vote for that, i expect it to be e.g. cheaper than 60-250, not just want such lens. Same goes for 85mm vs 77mm.

Also, there are crazy options like 50/1.0 but nothing in the more realistic and useful range 28...35 F1.4..2, where we have only luxury limited lenses, and one slow subproduct.

Good way to settle this could be separating various options, e.g.:
Preferred focal lengths(8,10,14,18,20,24,28,30,35...), preferred speeds(Primes 1, 1.2, 1.4, 1.8, 2, 2.x, Zooms 2, 2.8, 4, variable fast 2..2.8-X, variable slow 3.5..4-X), preferred features (*,WR,L,LTD, macro, fisheye etc,SDM,SDM II). Unique lens types could be listed separately (e.g. 600mm F4, 600mmF5.6).

As with all those groups, they also have their different pricetag. The FA Ltd serie is expensive, but also top of the line. Choose them if you are willing to pay the top price or just look at DA* or better even a DA lens. Going for a cheap but good lensline then a DA-L would be the best to choose.

Indicative pricerange for the listed lenses:
  • A < $ 250 -> these are ofcourse the three DA-L lenses.
  • B $ 250 – $ 500 -> 8mm/28mm/135-400mm/1,4xTC/2xTC
  • C $ 500 – $ 1000 -> 24mm/50mm/100mm/70-200
  • D $ 1000 – $ 1500 -> 20mm/85mm/105mm/135mm/400mm/28-70
  • E $ 1500 - $ 2500 -> 200macro/500mm/80-200
  • F > $ 2500 -> The long ends 300/600/135-270mm

Part of this survey is not making inventory of what kind of lenses would be usefull to some members, but investigating which lenses would be preferred to develop and bring to market A.S.A.P. For this is being specific very important.

In the first post there is a (somewhat wildguess pricelist) and there is the 70-200mm/f4 much cheaper then currently listed 60-250mm/f4. The 70-200mm is as an adon to the 17-70 listed. Not much interest at the time for such a lens.

You can also read current report https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/149081-results...velopment.html that will be updated in a few weeks.

Thanks for your input. Your suggestions are helpfull to make some longterm demand from users bundled together.

Funny thing is, I think I'd vote differently now than I did when you started the poll.

Well that is when you put $ 1.000 in an envelop with a note of what to buy with it and then open it a year later. You probably have changed your mind.
