I actually shoot most things with my 50 f/1.4 exclusively these days.
I find I will move closer or further away rather than switch over to a zoom.

The pictures taken with this lens are special as everyone has said. The extra f stops are well worth it for indoor shooting with natural light.

I like the "feature" of the extremely shallow DoF when the lens is at the open end. As has been mentioned, it softens skin blemishes and draws you into the eyes.

do you have any bigger pictures with some more harsh lighting?

how close were you to her face with the camera? 50cm (a yard) away?

more harsh lighting in this one. full daylight over a pool



In the first pic I was very close yeah probably about 50cm away. In this pic I am probably between 1 and 1.5 metres away.

where did you get your lens and how much was it?

The Pentax-FA 50mm f/1.4 has superb bokeh - and this is the main reason why I like the lens. When shooting landscapes at infinity, or any distance for that matter, it is not as sharp as various 50mm f/1.8's. This shot was taken with a k100d and Pentax-FA 50mm f/1.4.
