Grease for focussing threads

Please can someone recommend grease for lubing up a focussing thread. I'm going to take a prime (cheap one) apart and have a go.

EDIT: looks like Nikon grease is available on ebay

I use automotive bearing grease. If it can sustain high pressure, high temperature in bearings, it can handle lenses.

Should do, just don't apply too much. Clean off the old grease with kitchen detergent then brush on a very thin layer on one side will do. If you see it squeezing out, it's too much.

I spray the helicoids down with brake cleaner to remove everything that was on them, it leaves them completely clean with no residue.

For grease, I use white lithium grease, I get it in a spray can from CRC. I spray some on a cloth and wipe it on the helicoids, just enough to give it a light coating.

First one I did was a cheap Suntar 135mm, it would barely turn and it was impossible to use. I also did my Mamiya-Sekor 60mm macro after I was confident that I would not ruin it. That was roughly a year ago and they both still focus very smoothly and I have not had any problem with the grease creeping. I recently did my Jupiter-9, it had some really nasty grease from the factory.

Thanks, think I will opt for some Nikon FC-4, which is designed for Nikon manual focus helicoids.
