Changing the mount+AF system - possible?

I've been lusting after a Sigma 100-300/4 lens for a while and they are very hard to come by.

My question is if I get one for Sony or some other system, can I take it to Sigma to be adapted for Pentax?

Has anyone ever tried doing this and what are the approximate costs involved?

I don't think it's possible with AF. but anyway, how much are you willing to go for a Sigma 100-300?

Been pondering exactly this myself, one for a Canon mount sold the other day for $846.00 on the Gold Coast.... From a small amount of looking around, it maybe possible to graft in the Sigma/Pentax HSM mount, but, I think what may stop it is the Pentax chip not bing in the lens for coms to function.

Are you selling??

In the vicinity of ~$1000 but like cmohr has said, other mounts routinely sell for a lot cheaper. I saw a Sony one sell for under $600 a little while back.

that's the problem. since this lens is already discontinued for the K-mount, it would be pretty rare or difficult for owners to sell it even at $1,000. besides, there aren't that too many copies in the open. it might cost you from $1,500 and up. it depends on how bad you really want this lens, and depends on the owner as well.

Well, I can wait. I am not a birder though I don't mind it. And I have a tammy 70-200/2.8, a couple of MF primes around 200mm and the A 400/5.6 which is pretty good.

or maybe you can just buy it in another mount and use the lens on it. Sony's A580's AF is good, Canon 7D and Nikon D90 are fast. atleast they won't brake your bank.

Might be an idea - if I save $400 on the lens, this would almost cover the second-hand body.
