Considering you want to replace Sigma 30 and the features you want 31 is your best friend. Used ones can be had for 700-800USD I believe...maybe touch less.

43 would be nice compliment to 30 but not replacement. And if you don't want macro there is no point getting 35ltd as you'd loose a lot of light.

31 vs 43? 31 is sharper at corners up to f4. 43 is sharper in the centre at any f stop. It's good in corners but difference between corner and centre sharpness is noticeable, much less so with 31.

How about MF lens?

Love Sigma 30 for what it is but I also want a lens that I can bring out for some street, landscape, city shoots..... etc.
For ladscapes or city or other static themes you really don't need AF most of the time. Maybe you can look in older MF lenses, like SMC K35/3.5 which has great reputation of edge sharpness. And you'll save a lot of money.
I haven't tried DA35ltd but I had FA43 and in my opinion it's great lens, maybe the best of FA Limiteds. But I found it to be better at shorter focus than at infinity. I mean that edge sharpness is very good stopped down, but for me where this lens really shines is separation of object from background creating quite inetersting bokeh and 3d feel.

I happen to agree with that. You can think of FA43 as one stop darker Sigma30 with more enhanced edge sharpness. If you're considering FA31, sell Sigma to finance that - FA31 is maybe not that sharp in center but it is sharp enough.

Thanks for all the reply again. 43 is what I wanted from the very beginning and I shouldn't be swayed by the reasonable price I get from the 35mm ltd... Anyway I am glad that I have come to a decision. Thanks for all you input guys!!

Thanks for all the reply and I am still trying to digest a bit.

Again, if the lense has macro, is a bonus, not a necessity for my use. I used to have a Canon 400D with a 50 1.8 (a FOV of 80mm in FF) and it's a bit too narrow in some cases but 43mm (64.5) might be okay and the difference to a 35mm (52.5) is not that much???

31mm is out of my budget and its 1/2 a stop slower than 30 1.4. If it's cheaper than US750 or if I shoot film, I will consider.... but 1-2 years down the road I might think otherwise.

Anyway thanks for all the input....... I am still undecided!?!
how bout the FA35/2?
