I never heard Pentax used to have a 55/1.2 model, and I doubt hoya is willing to spend money on develop a new lens instead of using the old models.

Actually, when Pentax ran out the batch of A 50/1.2 and FA 20-35/4 and FA 35/2, they showed that it could happen.

No, I don't think the Pentax would be 2k or more based on what the sold that batch of A 50/1.2 for last year. They went for ~ $960 and were all sold out from Honk Kong and Tokyo. The FA are more similar to the FA in building requirements on the assembly line. I figure it would be in the same ball park as the FA 31 ltd. which I look at as the "modern" K 28/2 although not exactly.

I never said Jack about a 55/1.2. Go back and re-read my posts. Pentax had the K 50/1.2 and the A 50/1.2 which can hang with any 1.2 lenses every put out there. Why screw with that other than put the Ghostless coating on the rear element and SP on the front element. (that was rhetorical hence no ?)

Maybe it could look something like this (with AF of course).
I have dreams about that lens. SO beautiful.

My suggestion is to just buy an A 50/1.2 and get over it Don't worry about the lack of AF, it's no show stopper IMO.

If by that you mean they probably would rather use the K/A 50/1.2 design, then yeah I agree with you. Hoya have been shown to make completely new lens designs every year though, so it's not like they're not being creative in the lens design department

I believe you will get better results with the lens that exists than with the one which doesn't exist.
My 2 cents

A) With 55/1.4 around Pentax won't introduce another high end 50ish lens.
B) point of FA ltds was not speed but fastest possible speed in smallest possible package. Hence 43/1.9 f.e.
C) what's wrong with DA*55?!? Yes K/A50/1.2 may just edge it opticaly but that doesn't mean 55 is a bad lens, rather that 50/1.2 by Pentax was exceptional design

The DA * 55mm is a great lens optically - but it's housed in a WR body with SDM. I don't need those things, they make the lens more expensive, and more importantly, they make the lens bulkier and heavier!

I would like to see a LTD equivalent for those who prefer LTD build over DA* build.

Again, I'm not saying an FA-LTD 50/55/1.2 wouldn't be a nice lens (I'd probably buy one myself), but there's almost no chance Pentax is going to put one out, especially because there is already the DA*55 in production.
