Before I answer - what the hell is that black cloud?!?

For me it depends if I´m sight-seeing on holiday, in which case it´ll be the Tamron 17-50, or wandering round purely for the pleasure of photography. In that case I will usually take a combo of three M primes: the 28/3.5, the 50/1.7 or /1.4, and the 85/2. Of those three, the fifty probably gets left on as standard, as I prefer the focal length, and the speed is very useful.

DA 18-135 WR. I got it because I thought the combination of size, weight, zoom range and IQ seemed good. After using it for a few months, I am happy with its performance and I use all of the zoom range. Most of the time, I feel little need for more. For "walking around, just taking pictures of stuff", I have no desire for larger apertures. But that's just my style of photography - I sometimes have trouble getting enough depth of field, but I can't think of any situations where I have the opposite problem. But then again, that's just my style. I sometimes wish I had a larger aperture for other reasons - like a few days ago when I found a bio-luminescent bug in the middle of the (not completely dark) Scandinavian summer night. But that does not happen often enough for me to justify carrying around a heavier large-aperture zoom all the time.

So that is the lens that I happily use and my rationale for why I do it. You should know that it is also the only modern lens I have ever owned and used, and that I value being able to actually bring my gear everywhere I go very highly (hence size and weight are very important factors to me, and multi-lens solutions is not for me, even though I do use other lenses on occasions when I don't have to carry them too far).

If I am going to have just one lens it would be the tamron 28-75 on my k-r. My k100d is enjoying several new m42s, but its favorite is the helios 44-2.

On a lazy day DA40mm/f2.8 but for that I really want a plastic K-5

Otherwize either DA*55mm/f1.4 (on K-5) or FA*85mm/f1.4 (on K-5 Silver) depending on the camera I'm taking.

+1 - Today it's the DA15, but the 31mm more frequently.

With my impatient wife, FA*24/2 or FA35/2

By myself K24/2.8 (love its smaller size over the FA*) or FA35/2
