Super-Takumar 50mm F1.4 (Early 8-Element Variant)?

Hi.

I've found a Super-Takumar 50mm F1.4 for sale. One of the pictures in the ad shows that the switch for A-M is marked "37900" and a single "M" is visible. No pics of the IR-marker available. What do you think about this? Is it an early 8-element variant? Or a later one?

I have the 1965: Super-Takumar 1:1.4/50 - late version, with a white dot on the aperture ring at the f/2 position, and the switch on mine is marked 37801.

My 8-element has a single M, no white dot, and no markings on the A-M switch.

My 8 element has no markings on the A-M switch, has 6 blades, no white dot and the S/N is 1314318.

My Super TAK has 37801 on the A-M switch, 6 blades and no white dot.

My SMC TAK has 37902 on the A-M switch, 8 blades and no white dot.

I doubt that yours is an 8 element, but ask for the S/N and/or a shot of the IR marker.

Serial number is not an absolute indicator. The SN on my 8-element is 1549846 which according to Blue is the highest # for an 8-element in his database and I believe is a higher SN than some 7-element STs. The two best indicators are the IR mark and protruding rear element.

Thank you all for your replies. I have asked the seller to send me some pictures of the f-scale.
If it is a later model, do you recommend to buy it? Price range? I have a Chinon 50/1.7 , but it would be nice to have this legendary lens also.

My 8-element version has no number on the A/M switch (A/M rather than Auto/Man).
The IR mark is all-important, but on a poor photo it may be hard to see (as it was on mine when I bought it). The protruding rear element is clear too. I have a M42/K adapter on it permanently, without spring, so it effectively works as a K-lens, but with Av-mode.

Do take a lens hood for it (possibly for a slightly longer focal length) as its coating is not yet superb; it will help reduce flare. Mine came from someone else on this forum, a B&W lens hood, slightly longer than for a 50mm FF and thus great on the dslr. I do love this lens.

Thank you all for your help! I received a picture from the seller that shows the IR-dash between the 4 and 8, and serial # is 1839xxx, so it looks like it's a later model. The price now (8 days left on the auction...) is approx. $60, so I'll think I'll pass on this one.

eBay is insane. I got my 8-element with a Honeywell Spotmatic and 2 other lenses for $88.

They may be listed at that price, but I don't see anyone tripping over themselves to buy it at that price. Check the completed listings.
