I've never regretted selling a lens. In spite of thinking I May, in each case, it's turned out to be the best decision at the time for me. The one Camera Item I regret selling however, a Spiratone Bellows that had full view camera movements. Swing, tilt, shift, rise, and fall. That was long before my real entry into digital but I've been looking for another one ever since. The last one I saw sell went for over $500 (way beyond my comfort point).

Even though I prefer the line up I have now in terms of focal lengths, I think I regret selling my FA ltds (43 and 77 that is....) and F50/1.7, K50/1.2, K55/1.8..... I wish I was a millionaire........

Mine would be a K35mm f3.5, and Takumars 200mm f4 and 135mm f3.5 a couple of years ago.

The taks had never been mounted on a camera before, and I sold them because I just couldn't be bothered to buy an adapter for my K20d.

I sold my K 35/2 in order to get an FA 43, but I wish I had both. That was one sweet lens. Also, I miss my MZ-S. It was hard to justify having that much money into a film camera when I got a ZX-7 for $30, but still....

You lot are a sentimental bunch! Except for RioRico perhaps.

I tend to not rush into selling anything, but the real test is whether I actually miss the use or focal length of the lens over a longer period. For example, I thought I may miss my old 16-45 for its versatility after moving to all primes in the shorter FLs. Went on holiday, took many pictures and couldn't care less about a wide to normal zoom

I'd say a selling regret might be valid if it's something special that you can't get again. Maybe it's a good thing to try and discard our hints of seller remorse.

So far, I don't miss selling anything. At the end of the day though, Rio has a point.

And he also has a couple of hundred lenses; makes it easy to say, "don't sweat it"

I sold my FA50 f1.4, then missed it so much I purchased another four weeks later. I miss the Sigma 24-60 f2.8 I sold to NowhereMatt. I miss the DA* 16-50 I sold. Oh, and I miss the old-school Pentax-M 100mm f4 macro, even though I have the D-FA 100mm f2.8, and I kinda wish I'd kept the 1.7x af tc. Usually, though, I'm pretty smart about what goes on the "do not sell" list. DA* 50-135, Tamron SP 180 f2.5, FA35 - haven't even been tempted to sell those. Stopped myself before selling teh Sigma 10-20; I'm not an UWA person, but when you need one, it's the bomb. I think I might add the Sigma 30mm f1.4 to the list, too.

The lenses I have sold I did so to fund others that filled specific needs/desires, I am quite happy with every lens I now own and I only regret not being able to keep them all.

BUT - I certainly miss the DA*50-135 and the DA18-250.

I don't really regret it to be honest.

I Kept my Leica M system, which IMO is the best thing going from Leica so far - I use the M series cameras much more than I ever used the R system, frankly the R system was too well built for me to flog day after day. Not to mention the fact that the Leica Digital module-R never really took off frankly the IQ sucked. To bash* around the superbly built R series cameras and superb lenses which were practically in mint condition would have been more of a tragedy and I knew there would be some one would would be willing to buy it, and and pay top dollar - the Japanese have a fetish for Leica gear and the collector who bought them was willing to pay top dollar.

*no camera or lens ever gets special treatment from me. Though having said that I am not careless with my equipment, I respect each finely crafted piece. And because of this I treat my Leica Noctilux-M 50mm f/0.95 the same way as I treat any other 50mm lens I own. If a camera breaks or a lens component fails, it is because it wasn't built well enough.

I didn't sell it, but I do miss it. That was my workhorse tele/macro for so many years.
