D FA 100 macro wierd first use, problem?

Just received my new D FA 100 WR and on first use it appeared to be not able to focus. I tried in manually and it felt like a pack of sand grinding about in the focus mechanism. After about five minutes of playing with it, it broke free and started to act perfectly normally. Seems to be gone but none of my other lenses did that ever. Is this a normal thing or should I send it back el pronto.

What camera? On my K20D are three setting of the AF switch: AF.S, AF.C, and MF. If I mount a non-quick-shift AF lens, set the switch to AF.S or AF.C, and try to manually focus, I get the grinding noise and resistance, because the AF drive worm gear is still engaged. I switch to MF to focus manually.

Except that the D-FA 100WR macro lens has quick-shift so there *shouldn't* be an issue with MF regardless of the position of the AF/MF switch.

I don't have the lens collection (yet) other here have collected, but I recently bought the DFA 100 WR and I did not encounter anything like you describe, neither with the DFA nor with any other lens.

Yes, the lens let's me focus quite easily with AF any mode on. It seem to be running perfectly at this time. Just not sure if I should take it as a one time quirk or a sign of things to come.

Wise choice. If it happened once, it will happen again. 24 hours After the Warranty expires. Like the others, mine has never behaved that way.
