That would help, as would a history book. What would have been wrong with 24x36, 16x24, 18x13, 7.5x6, etc. ? The fractions for diagonals really only tell you big, bigger, biggest.

But that only accounts for aps-c. Below that you have: small, smaller, smallest. Above that you have: giant, enormous, and Gi-normous.

But I digress. It's instructive to peruse wikipedia entries on film formats and digital sensor sizes, and try to integrate and harmonize them. Yeah, go ahead, build a spreadsheet that includes ALL those formats. And note what the 'normal' focal lengths for those formats are, and what camera mounts support each format and the appropriate lenses. (You'll find stuff like M42 lenses built for 16mm cine cameras, lenses that WILL NOT WORK on SLRs.) Soak up that information -- and try to decide which (if any) should be The Standard. Now sell your decision to the world. Good luck.

1) Focal Length

Yeah. The focal length is the focal length. It doesn't physically change from sensor to sensor. Someone asked what the focal length actually measured, so I answered in this thread . . .

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/150900-focal-length.html

2) APS-c

Yeah. Its one of those historical things. But its easier to remember APS-c than remembering 20.7×13.8 . . .

3) ISO

If camera companies stopped using ISO, then my light meter and old flash units (from pre-digital days) would be useless.
