I thought the problem with the DA14 was field curvature in close & lack of sharpness at infinity focus?
Some of the usual suspects that often hammer on Pentax during reviews stated this such as phozone and ephotozine. It is actually barrel distortion with wave distortion in some situations. Take a look at the distortion target.

It's not.

The DA14 is not listed anymore. Goes anyone know whether it's still in production?

thanks

That could be part of the reason Blue. I've almost pulled the trigger on this one a couple of times myself. I've been reluctant not because of distortion issues but the fact I seldom need a really wide angle lens. I had a chance to handle one in a local camera store a while back. I do like the 2.8 speed and close focusing abilities but it is a really hefty piece of glass. I suspect carrying this lens around one's neck all day would be a chore. That being said the results I've seen from the DA 14mm club look stunning. If I were seriously in the market for a lens of this focal length I think I would select this one over the DA 15/4 as I always like the extra speed.

It's densely constructed, but not really as big as it's reputation.

Hey Dave,

The DA 14/2.8 weighs in at 600 grams which is exactly the same weight as my DA* 16~50/2.8 according to Dimitrov's site. It seemed heavier than my zoom when I tried it out at the camera store. It appears it wasn’t but that was my impression at the time. Speaking from experience the DA* 16~50/2.8, at 600 grams, gets to be a chore by the end of a long day. It is not intolerable but I know I've been carrying a load by the time I get home. In any case if I felt the need and had a use for the DA 14/2.8 the weight wouldn’t prevent me from making the purchase.

According to Dimitrov's site, the DA14 weights 420g (link), not 600g.

Duuh!!

My error. I misread the weight for the K 15/3.5. Sorry about that.

My conclusion that the weight of the lens wouldn't stop me from purchasing it if I felt a need for one still stands.
