Wide angle advice

Hello everybody
I would like to get a wide angle and I really hesitate between 3 lens :
the pentax 21 mm f3.2 limited
the sigma 20 mm f1.8
the new zeiss 25 mm f2.8
what I saw on the web is that all of these 3 gems are really correct and I didn't find another choice for a wide angle.
Thanks in advance for your help

Are you only interested in primes? If not I would suggest the DA12-24mm or the Sigma 10-20mm.

I have used two of the lenses mentioned, the DA21 and Sigma 20, between the two the da21 is the better one i think, even the slower max aperture considered.

The 20-25mm range is definitely my preferred focal length on APS-C.

Now five other lenses worth mentioning, is the Sigma 24 f1.8. and from the used market the Pentax A20 f2.8, A24 f2.8, FA20 f2.8 and FA*24 f2.8
The last four apears regularly on the used market. The former is avaiable from new.

Some of these lenses are manual focus and that is something worth mentioning, but it is up to you to decide whether it is of importance.

Secondly, the difference between 20/21 and 24/25mm is actually quite notisable... so a decision has to be made there as well.

If I were to buy another lens in that range again (I already own 3) then the Zeiss would be a lens i would look very hard at, as well as the A20.
But those are both manual focus.

All this said, if I did not have any lenses in that range the DA21 is hard to pass up on.

Best advise, go try them out and see what you like in terms of FOV, that will make your decision easier, and there is a notisable difference between them.

You can also consider the Tamron adaptall 17mm f3.5, the Tokina RMC 17 f3.5, some other M42 lenses like the Zeiss flektogons, and of course you have the mythical pentax SMC-A 15mm. There also the SMC-FA 20, tamron 14 (althought I dont know if it exists in Pentax mount) and many more that I cant remember right now. It usually helps to do a search in internet or check the lens database in the forum.

Hope it helps

I have both lenses too, and I find the Sigma slightly better, but only slightly.

Interestingly for both lenses the AF had to be adjusted. The DA21 went to Pentax and the 20/1.8 to Sigma.

The two lenses are very different.
I would take the Sigma only if you need the speed.

I wrote something on it here:

Well just shows that there are different preferences and a justification for both.
I use(d) the DA21 mostly for landscapes and found the rendering more pleasing... but yeah the Sigma is not bad at all either.

I ended up letting the Sigma go and ended up with two 24mm lenses as well. the FA*24 and A24, two seemingly identical lenses, but yet soo different.

Even went as far as considering the Zeiss 25mm just to see how good it is, but decided that two 24mm should be enough
