Will Sigma 18-50 macro work on my Pentax K-r

I'm so very new to all of this. I have a Pentax k-r and my husband has a Sigma 18-50mm macro. I tried putting in on but it wasn't going on easily, so I stopped, thinking perhaps it doesn't fit.

Yes, it will work, as long as it's the Pentax (k-mount) version: Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC Macro Lens for Pentax Digital 581109

I went to our camera store here in San Diego. The lens mentioned above WILL NOT work.

Again, it will if it's the version Sigma makes for Pentax. It won't if it's the version Sigma makes for some other brand.

Sigma makes lenses to fit several types of mounts. Just seeing SIGMA on the lens means nothing. The lens base or rear cap may say something like PK or PKR or FOR SA-KPR -- those would indicate a Pentax mount.

Sigma Lens

I have a Sigma 70-210 that I used to use with a Pentax PZ-10. The cap on the Sigma says "For Pentax-K , KR-P." It sounds like this lens will work with the K-R? Any guidance would be great. I've read some horror stories about lenses getting stuck on digital SLRs...

You shouldn't have any problem as the PZ-10 has a KAF2 mount and all lenses with a K-series mount will mount on all modern Pentax cameras.

To add to Docrwm

Lenses that get stuck are lenses from before the AF era (having the infamous Ricoh pin). Your PZ-10 is an AF camera and therefore there should not be an issue; if it worked on the PZ-10, it should be safe on a dSLR.
