Rip fa* 80-200/2.8

I just sold my FA* 80-200 and the norwegian postal service didn't handle the shipping all too well. I almost felt a tear.

If so, how is the insurance claim going?

What a shame to see such a lens all busted up.

Poor handling by carriers is one reason I generally way way way over-pack my lenses when shipping. So far, so good (knock on wood & fingers crossed).

Damn shame. Any chance of getting another front element from Pentax? I know it's out of production....but might be worth bouncing out a few emails to find out.

That's the saddest thing I've ever seen, camera related of course. For that lens, it would certainly be worth trying to locate a new front element.

A cautionary tale, I suppose. From that photo, it looks like you just put it in an envelope and didn't put a lens cap on it.

I did have bubble wrap, paper and lens cap.

That was actually my first thought. That glass looks too flat to be a lens front element. Have you actually Seen this lens or is it a photo sent to you by the recipient? Did it have a filter when you Sent it?

I had a filter on it when I sent it yeah and I haven't seen it after I sent it, no. So, the best scenario would be if the got his money back and then the lens is fully functional.

Call Pål Vangsøy at Fovi (22 58 80 90). My guess is that repair cost less than 9000NOK....

Ps : I really hope Pentax make a new 80-200mm f2.8 and ethe 1.4 converter ...Dream may be more exact than hope..?
