M42 to K adaptor - defective

So the spring clip on my adaptor is bent enough, so it doesn't sit right against the adaptor, which means it won't twist in.
Should I just remove the clip altogether? What is the consequence of removing the clip?

Thanks

If the adapter is the genuine Pentax made one, leave the spring on and fiddle with the spring until it can mount on the body. If it's a cheap third party adapter, remove the spring and the screw or you would be in for some nasty surprises. The spring is the lens lock, without the spring your lens will be 'locked' in place by friction only. If you have lenses with stiff focus rings, the lens can drop off from the camera body (I have had this happen, but caught the lens before it can drop to the pavement). I have been able to increase the friction on the third party mounts by peaning the flanges on the adapter with a centre punch.

Hope this helps,

I think it is ok (for me anyway) to have the clip removed. The only thing is that it is easier to remove (unscrew) the lens without the clip. I keep the clip on for the genuine m42/k mount adapters. But for the cheap/clone adapter I bought for my Vivitar 200/3.5 MF lens, it stays with the lens, so it becomes a k-mount lens.

Just wondering -- is there any special reason you've posted this question twice?

Accidentally hit post twice...I got a screen saying that I wasn't allowed to post consecutively, but for some reason both posts appeared. So no special reason, a user error.
