M42 to K adaptor - defective

So the spring clip on my adaptor is bent enough, so it doesn't sit right against the adaptor, which means it won't twist in.
Should I just remove the clip altogether? What is the consequence of removing the clip?

Thanks

You can remove the clip and attach it to the lens and then you can use the lens as if it were a K mount. The adapter will stay attached to the lens rather than the body.

Yes, that's what we commonly do. I've had cheap clone adapters on some lenses for so long that I've almost forgotten they aren't native PK-M mounts. Yes, remove the screw and spring, thread the adapter onto the lens, then use a PK rear lens cap as a wrench to tighten it.
